How do you feel about Weight Watchers?

I am looking for some help achieving a healthy weight, and would like to try Weight Watchers. How do you feel about it? What have been your results? I am looking to lose a lot of weight, about 75-100 pounds. I am not looking to do this quickly, and am aware of the physical and nutritional changes needed to be made in order to achieve this weight loss. So I am just looking for guidance. Thank you!

No one else is going to agree with me here (I guarantee it) but I don’t like Weight Watchers. They “let” you eat ANYTHING, yet only allot you a certain number of “points” per day. So you can eat cake, pizza and fries…but that’s all you get all day because you used your points up. How is that healthy?

They also don’t mention factors other than fat and calories (like sodium, for example.) Progresso has some 0 point canned soup out and the women in my office on WW are sucking it up like gangbusters. Apparently WW never taught them about how canned soup contains obscene amounts of sodium, which will bloat you faster than fat and calories will.

They do teach correct portion sizes, which is good.

UK answer – I don’t understand the points system. But I do have a work colleague who has lost 2 stone on WW. It took her nearly a year though. The only thing she did different was cut down on the volume of carbs she was eating before bedtime.

ok all weight watchers is only a place just to get weighed each week but when you are on a diet you meet people that are also on a diet and make like minded friends and exchange food ideas and adds something to your dieting social life, i think if you are part of a diet group you have a greater chance of success, i am a man and i went and i was the only man there but all the women gave me food ideas and i wanted to show everyone in the group that i could lose weight and when you lose weight you are made to feel special, give it a go and the only thing that you got to lose is FAT.. email me if you want to let me know how its going on johnpearson39@btinternet.com

Weight Watchers is listed as one of the top weight loss plans as far as dieters who have stuck with the program and continued with their new weight over a year later. The weight loss may be slower than other programs, but that is what counts for the results sticking a year later.

You are allowed to have your cake and eat it too, as long as it is WW cake. It isn’t as if you get to splurge all you want, it is in moderation. As far as fat and sodium intake, anything in excess is not good for you and you are better off to stick with as many veggies and fruits as possible. Some of the food items are 0 points, but that doesn’t mean you can have all you want. It just means that if you have one serving, say 3/4 a cup = 0 points, but if you double that to 1.5 cups then it will be count as a point.

I think it is a great program, even better if you show up to meetings and don’t depend on the on line program as the outside motivation is very important along with the weigh ins.

As with any weight loss program there are three things to remember:

    1. Exercise – the benefits are overwhelming – be healthy!
    2. Simple Math – Work off more than you consume, so stay active and watch your portions!!!
    3. Research – learn, learn, learn. The more you learn about exercise and diet, the more you will want to know. Use your wealth of information to recognize how much or how little sodium you should have, protein, carbs, vitamins, etc. You may become a nutritional junkie.

Good Luck and best wishes, you are doing a great thing.

I agree with user 1024. Also weight watchers doesn’t do anything you can’t do on your own. Watch your calorie intake and counter it with caloric outtake (exercise).

[Your body burns 1000 cal. a day just sitting around and 400 cal. a night sleeping, so you NEED a minimum of 1000 cal. a day to keep your body from thinking its starving. One or two days wont make your body go into starvation mood, but don't do it over and over and over.]

Check this out (this guy has helped me loose more weight in the last couple months then I have in years):

Oh and with weight watchers it isn’t so much weight you will loose as your money. Save you cash and buy something nice for yourself when you’ve lost 25 lbs. (I bought a Tony Little Gazelle Freestyle.)
